Oh, I feel wretched this morning.  Don't quite know why, actually: I stayed in like a Good Girl to do some work (syllabus - done!) and went to sleep early, but I feel like I've been used for pinata-practice by a horde of over-enthusiastic children.

Lately, I've been even weirder than usual: for example, all week, I've been obsessing over the famous Spooner-ism, "The Lord is a shoving leopard."  This is partially just because it sounds really cool, and partially because it fits nicely with my idea of the divine, with God sleeping all day, wandering around idlely, stopping only to bat at some string, or chase a Job-mouse, or knock someone over by scent-marking them too hard.  In fact, I would love to write an entire sermon based on the idea of the Lord as a shoving leopard: "And we, we, are the Lord's scratching post, yes we are, my chirrun, can I get an amen!"

The other day, [livejournal.com profile] schrodingersgnu  got another paper published - rock on, 'Gnu - prompting me to go off on the following bit of oddness: A publication by any other name would still look as good on your c.v.  Also, 'tis better to have submitted and have been rejected than to never have submitted at all.  Feel free to contribute your own profoundly shallow additions in the comments.

P.S. - [livejournal.com profile] cataptromancer , BPAL knows of your disdain, and it seeks to tempt you with Chaucerian scents:

PARLEMENT of FOULES
For the Valentine’s Day purists.

For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his mate.

Medieval romance and courtly love. White rose and soft resins.

They give me Wife of Bath(salts), and I'll think about it.
