d_aulnoyMy parents have departed, woe and woe, but they (and I) thank you all for your suggestions: it was a great visit which did, alas, serve to confirm the impression that NY beats CA, hands down. My deeply urban parents were faintly appalled by the degree of driving that CA requires to accomplish, well, anything, but they approved the house and its environs. Also, the peacocks and the hummingbirds: luckily, CA's less-cute wildlife stayed on the DL while they were here, as I doubt that a visit from a skunk, possum, or black widow spider would have done anything to improve their stay.
(The black widows have been making up for it since their departure, though, because, damn, they are everywhere: it may finally be time to order Verminator 2.0.)
Methinks I am resigning myself to staying in Monrovia as opposed to moving out to Claremont or Redlands as I grow accustomed to the greatness that is GoogleMaps: I know, I am always the last one on the bandwagon. But when I pinpoint living areas in Claremont or Redlands and try to cross-reference with little necessities like groceries or dry-cleaning or banks, I ... draw a blank. All of these seem to require more driving, and not less. So, methinks I will suck it up and drive for the socializing and, in the meantime, enjoy my pretty little house, and finally hang my iron key over the door.
And now, back to work ... a month is long enough to finish my book revisions, right? Right?
