Dear LJ Braintrust:

Do you live in California/have cool friends in California to whom you'd like to introduce me?  Now that work is approaching manageable levels, I find that I miss my social life.  LA or San Fran areas welcome ....

Love,

[livejournal.com profile] morganlf. She's a medievalist grad student who's published critical work on science fiction and popular culture, loves good food, and had a really cool internship this summer in London at the BL working with manuscripts. I'll let her know about you too, if you'd like. She's in the LA area.

Yes, thank you! I feel odd friending people *completely* out of the blue, without even so much as a comment discussion on a shared community ... going the "introduction" route feels much more natural to me.

One of the sweetest, nicest, and all around greatest people I know is my friend from grad school, Erin (a.k.a. [livejournal.com profile] scattergrrrl). She is currently doing her PhD in communication and culture at UCSD. Look her up, she's fantastic.

[livejournal.com profile] griffen is a grad student in sociology at one of the LA-area UCs. (Can't remember which.) If you want someone to academic-geek at, he's your man.

I have a ton of fabulous friends in SF and would love to introduce you to them. We're taking a trip there in April; if you feel like heading north around then, I'd be happy to make some in-person introductions.

Excellent, and thank you! Now, while SF in April would probably be a stretch for *me* ... how would you feel about playing yenta for a friend of mine who's recently moved up there? He's a fellow academic, and one of the loveliest people I know. And/or, alternately, about taking a trip down "south"? We're not pure luxury, but we try ....

I don't know many academics in SF, but if he wants to meet awesome queer poly techies, I can provide them in spades.

We'll be in L.A. in October, or such is the plan.

I swear. I know all the cool people in Long Beach. Okay, maybe not all of them, but if they're not cool enough to come for drinks at my flat next Friday, then they're not cool enough to know. (Hmmmm, with a guest list of, like, 10 people, we'll just call me elitist. Also, eclectic.)

**gasp** A cool person in Long Beach whom I do not know? This is a travesty and must be fixed immediately. Coffee? (Probably at Portfolio because if you're going to be "cool" in Long Beach...)

Hello from LA! :)

I'm set for a pretty busy semester, but let me know if you're going to be in the vicinity of Silverlake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Hollywood...

I'd be delighted to introduce you to the friends I was telling you about in/near LA. I'll dig out their blog so you can get to know them a bit. They're not on LJ. Is it permitted to send them here to Mme. d'Aulnoy, as long as it's by private correspondence? I know you have concerns about your Secret Identity....
