Okay, so while looking for communities to promote [profile] endicottstudio on (cough, procrastinating on dissertation work, cough), I stumbled across a community focusing on "The Last Unicorn", [profile] last_unicorn_.  (Along with communities for American McGee and Francesca Lia Block, but this seems to be the best for the purposes of procrastination.  Why?  Because it has YouTube links.)  First off: what appears (?) to be the original trailor for "The Last Unicorn".  Second, the clip of "Walking Man's Road".  Third: a cover of "The Last Unicorn" itself, set to a rather nice selection of clips.  And finally: a Last Unicorn vid set to "Listen to Your Heart".  Awesome.

Someday, I really must try to track down a soundtrack for that movie ....

And now, back to poring over the news-links describing the possibilities of a live-action adaptation, or a collector's DVD.  Er.  I mean, to working on my dissertation.

[Edit:  "Listen to Your Heart" is apparently a very popular choice for Last Unicorn remixes: I can sort of see why (in that angsty, emo, "Wow, but you misunderstood the movie just a little bit, didn't you?" kind of a way), but while this one adds a bit of context using dialogue from the film, the first one is really rather better done.]

Heh - yep, and loved it. Will be reviewing it in the next day or two ... for today, I took the liberty of mentioning the link to "Bones Like Black Sugar". :)

Oh, I shall look! Thank you--deeply. I despair of there being any other review.

Thanks for the links! I just finally got around to reading "Two Hearts" so I'm definitely in the mood for some reminiscing. I actually haven't read The Last Unicorn yet, but I liked the movie (which I saw about year and a half ago for the first time). I even named my laptop Schmendrick :)

OMG - The Last Unicorn is one of my ALL TIME FAVES. Back in the Vassar Days, one of my best friends and I stayed up all night discussing how it was a metaphor for Lesbian Feminism. Think about it...

...off to watch the clips. thanks!!!

Okay, now, this is an explanation that I am looking forward to ....

Obfuscation of horn as symbolic castration?

something along those lines. there's also the harpie and the unicorn as the dual faces of the divine feminine, the magician as lovable, impotent homosexual, and that crazy ass tree with the giant breasts that's somekind of drag queen parody of femininity.

and of course maggie's "where were you when i was a girl and needed you, now i'm a broken domestic servant" speech. so rich a film....

Heh. I'm actually wondering what the copyright laws say abou this stuff ... because some of these videos are fantastic! But, on the other hand, I'm hazy on what constitutes fair use in cinema ....

Bah.
