Aaaaaaand ... the Goblin Market paper is done. I've given it the pretentious title of "Rates of (Ex)Change: The Goblin Market and Voodoo Acounting". (I seem to be having more of a thing for parentheses then usual, even.) It was an interesting piece to write, and I think that some of it's even sent me off in new directions dissertation-wise, but, man, is it weird writing non-academic papers: I find myself twitchily including citations even when I don't need them. When I finished the first draft? I was at 6,300 words, or 800 over my limit. By the time I finished cutting them out? I was within 200 words. Freaky.

Speaking of "freaky", my computer shut down on me when I was half-way through the first set of line edits. That hasn't happened to me since the Crapple, and it had me most truly and sincerely wigged: I envisioned losing my dissertation, having to retype the paper by midnight off of my one hard-copy in a frenzy of hunt'n'pecking, and searching frantically through all of my random fire-hazard inducing piles of paper to find drafts of everything from my c.v. to my thin folder of fledgeling fiction. After trying fruitlessly to restart it, I went screaming for Roommate B. like an exorcised banshee, and was met with a USB key and the use of her laptop to get the paper off of my e-mail, cleaned up, and off to the editor, bless her little heart.

TPB thinsk I need this: http://www.swissknifeshop.com/page/SKS/PROD/SBUSB/qts/gawusb
I think he might be right.

But before I can go running to a CompUSA tomorrow, I'm taking my class to the Renaissance Faire by the Cloisters tomorrow. Hope I'll see some of you there ....

P.S. -What's up with the lack of rich-text, by the way? Given my sad lack of HTML skills, it makes for bleak and colorless posts ...

Is "acounting" deliberately misspelled?

Oh, and unless you actually need the knife and scissors, you can find a 512MB key for $20-30. I know, I know, you like knives, but still...

eBay, poppet, eBay.

About six weeks ago I bought a 2 GIG stick for my othersweetie for $95, including shipping.

[livejournal.com profile] freddiemac's right, though, one can NEVER have enough edged weaponry and tools, especially the easily-carried kind, so that nifty little purse-widget might be just what you want to have in mind when someone asks you what you want for your birthday.
