I just this minute put the finishing touches on the introduction for the special issue on the hybridization of genre and sent it off to the senior editor. Wow. What a feeling - I've been working on this for a little over a year now (date when I officially got the okay: May 21st, 2003 - it's like a 13 month long pregnancy), and it feels fabulous, but also kind of ... anxiety-inducing. What if Bill hates my intro. and thinks that I write like a turtle falling of a log, and says, "Eh, never mind." What if all of the loyal subscribers write in in droves, castigating the hapless powers that be for putting power into the hands of a ham-fisted grad. student with no idea of the magnitude of the ideas that she's been belaboring, demanding their money back? What if foul calumny is heaped on my head for years to come as the result of the hubris that led me to think that this was a good idea? What if my contributors are tarred with the same brush, and I'm blacklisted from my beloved conferences? What if, what if, what if ...

What if it works out?

'Cause, despite the persistent gnawing of apprehension at my gut, it still feels *really* good to have done this.

Yeah. I'm weird.

Edited to add: is it an omen of sorts that the little icon for "accomplished" appears to be holding a teeny coffin? Eeek ... knock on wood that it's not.

When you use a goth mood icon set, I don't think it's a bad omen for coffins to show up. Now, if daisies and smileys started appearing, that would be ominous.

When's the issue coming out and where can I get it?

What is this "mood icon set" of which you speak? Still baffled by LJ's quirks. Though it may explain why all of the characters are ... quirky.

The issue should be coming out in the fall, and I think that you probably have to order from the university, but I'll write them and check. I have to say, I'm *really* looking forward to having a copy in my hot little hands ...
