Inspired by [personal profile] upstart_crow, who was in turn inspired by [personal profile] erzebet (all good things lead back to [personal profile] erzebet) I am currently:

- Dissertating.
- Trying to get my recs in order for Endicott.
(P.S., If you know a book which is wonderful and which deserves commendation, hit me in the comments.)
- Mulling over fiction titles in my head.  I have, like, a bakers dozens of story ideas in my head, yet not the bollocks (or time, I suppose) to write the results out for fear that I will end up with slush.  Ah, the ever-lasting trauma of being a professional critic .....
- Choosing the right academic essays for the next big double-issue of CdF.
- Trying to choose a topic for the editorial for the next CdF.
- Pondering the possibility of guest-editing another journal, and also wondering who the hell I'd solicit for essays on the New Weird.  (Uh ... [profile] pythia_akrypta?)
- Freaking right the hell out about going on the market next year.
- Savoring the feeling of having had a lovely tea with Ellen, Delia, and Terri.
- Turning the possibility of attending My First ReaderCon over in my mind - would anyone already attending be looking for a roomie?
- Plotting my first entry on Chicken Legs.
- Kind of appreciating the fact that my last piece of jewelry-making went wrong, as I'm liking how it went wrong.
(It was meant to be a simple marquis-shaped opal, bezel-set, in a collar of eyes.  However, the opal, being ... an opal, cracked in the setting.  Now it's a mosaic, to which I frustratedly attatched a little tiny claw-charm that I found with [profile] vschanoes last year in London.  Now, methinks, it is the beginning of a Baba Yaga necklace.  Go figure ....)
- Pondering commissioning [personal profile] elisem for a necklace with the title she posted finding on a scrap of paper in her pocket some months ago - "The Post-Colonial Literature of the Elves".  Being that I study fairy tales, it seems oddly appropriate; also, at the Haiku Earring party, a lovely woman solemnly told me that she was wearing a Magical Writing Necklace.  I want a Magical Writing Necklace.  Given Item the First, it seems oddly appropriate .....

You know, looking back over this list, it occurs to me that I am more prone to tangents than the other people who have made them.

In line with the necklace going wrong, yet my nonetheless liking the results .... figures.

She'd be at the top of my list for such a thing.

I'll second/third the rec of [livejournal.com profile] pythia_akrypta, and I'd also talk to [livejournal.com profile] ancientwisdom, and throw my own hat in as well, as a distant third, since I'm a mere youngin' of a grad student.

I wish I could offer space for Readercon. Alas, I'm staying with relatives for the happy event.

BUT I'll ask if they'd be opposed to having you come for a few days when I speak to them tomorrow.

*tilts head* New Weird? I could do that.

I would love a roomie, since I'm contemplating a last-minute decision to attend.

Would you be flying :( or driving :)?

The plan was vaguely to fly, since I'd be going out for the fourth of July weekend with Kyle, but I don't know how much that would cost; it's possible I could be talked into driving instead, if that would be noticeably cheaper.

I'd certainly be interested in writing some sort of essay on the NW for ya! In fact, I'm working on an entry on that topic for the Encyclopedia of Women in Science Fiction and Fantasy, so I'll be even more entrenched in it after that...

I'll reply to Catherynne instead of the post itself so that both of you can see it: I've currently got a room with one other person (Jef Smith) in it, so I'm looking for two to three more. Do let me know if you're interested, assuming I haven't already tired you out of the prospect of rooming with me.

(I may--may--be driving out from NY as well, if that's relevant.)

Also, I know I owe both of you e-mails about hotel bills (and you, Helen, about meeting up), but I entered MoCCA-Art-Festival-Crazy-Time basically the second I got back from WisCon, so I'm too swamped right now. But soon!

I went ahead and reserved a room just in case, because I don't know what combination of folk are coming with me, but we can certainly pool that room with yours and accomodate even more awesome people, if you like!

And of course I'm not tired of rooming with you. ;)

Not looking for a roomie since Chip and I share at R'con, but *!*!*I don't work Readercon so I actually have time to spend with friends while I'm there.*!*!* Just sayin'.

PS: If you end up coming by public instead of car, let us know and we'll get you to/from the hotel. (Getting to the hotel from {bus, train} station or airport via local is technically possible but non-trivial.)
