Surely some of the NYC doormen also do valet parking? Most of the types I've seen riding motorized razors between door and lot were pretty scruffy, but I wouldn't have thought well-dressed ones were \that/ uncommon....

Between lot and door, I wouldn't have wondered. This guy was on a main avenue commuting home, which, cool, but a bit of cognative dissonance for a girl traveling home around midnight ....

Ah. I can still imagine \reasons/ (e.g., a musician with a more practical bent than the Sydney symphony players who held up a concert to complain about losing parking privileges in front of the Opera House) but on a main drag it would be a sight.
