You know, I've been a bit concerned with myself for quite some time now. I've been worrying that my dependence, my need for, my tendency to ignore important considerations in favor of a certain thing might constitute a problem.
And it does. I'm admitting that openly.
I'm addicted to conferences.
It's very unhealthy ...
On the upside, it means that I get to go to Mythic Journey's in June! On the downside, it means that I need to figure out a way of getting to Atlanta that won't break my [piggy bank's] back, and to find people to stay with. Anyone thinking of off-setting costs by driving and/or seeing whether a hotel room is a good place to recreate the frat-boy/telephone booth scene?
P.S. - Leftover sushi and soy chips for breakfast? Delish.

Date: 2004-05-05 02:04 pm (UTC)So, okay, more of the star-fucking, literal or figurative, I get it, and amends will be made (as soon as I return from the promotional JD event that I'm headed to).
But for just a little taste of it: I figured out that, yes, you *do* know V. when we were sitting outside with Ellen Datlow and Alex Irvine after the Interstitial Arts panel. During the Q&A one thing that had come out was, okay, so where are all of these things that aren't getting published, huh? There's no trouble, no trouble at all, look at all of the genre-blending artists out there ... And, well, it would have been kinda rude to the person asking the question to say "What do you think? They're *unpublished*! They're being hidden in crispers and trunks all over the country!" So, anyway, once that person went away, the topic came up again, and I, uh, used you for my example. I said that I had a friend who'd written a really cool story that had gotten turned down from the s-f mags for having too much fantasy, and from the fantasy mags for having too much s-f, from both for being too dark, from horror mags for not being gory enough ... you get the idea. And, somehow, from all of this, V. recognized the outline of your personality, and got very excited, and said, "Swarthmore, right? Is his name ___?" So she says hi. Aside from that, Alex said that it took him 6 years to get his first story published, but that after that even stuff that had previously been rejected started to see print, and Ellen said that it sounded like an interesting story.
Now off to try to pretend that I don't have any problems with addiction at the event with the free booze ...
