The Museum Gardens is a lovely place to stroll. Skip the Jorvik Viking Centre which is for tourists and instead check out York Castle Museum or the Yorkshire Museum (which is in the Museum gardens and round the corner from the art gallery which has a splendid collection of male nudes).

York will be lovely this time of year with the wall banks covered in daffodils.
