I was going to keep up with my no-posting for no long periods of time policy, but ... a really long flat-bed truck carrying a band just rolled down my street, complete with mysterious band playing emo rock, screaming horde of fans, and police escort. And I could swear the Bruce Robbins was playing bass. What gives?

Mystery solved! Apparently it was U2 ...

Well, yeah, cause I'm still wondering what on earth inspired them to drive through Morningside ... Is that what rock stars do? Randomly decide to brighten the atmosphere of college neighborhoods by throwing impromptu concerts from moving vehicles?

Being an acadmic is just not that cool.

I think, perhaps, it's something that U2 does, if their video for "Where the Streets Have No Name" is any indication. *grin*

Constance was ranting about this to me earlier today. It's apparently some big publicity stunt where they drive around and give concerts in various places. They've posted about a few of the stops on http://www.livejournal.com/community/nyc_for_free/.

Here's what I find interesting: you didn't recognize *U2*?! I mean, I wouldn't recognize 90% of the famous people out there and probably 95% of bands. But...U2?

Eh, fifth floor, new album, and they were facing in the other direction thanks to traffic. But, yeah, you may have a point ... my lack of cultural capitol is showing.
