I like Melissa Scott for sort of gender-irrelevant sf/f. The new novel in Kutchner's (sp?) "Swordspoint" semi-series deals with gender more explicitly. Amd le Guin's "The Dispossesed" and "Always Coming Home" have parts that deal with gender expectations.
Hmm. I know I've read a fair amount of such- that, and gay-friendly etc.- but I can never think of titles or authors when someone asks. So annoying!
