Reason No. 38567 to Love Being Back in NY
Sep. 17th, 2009 10:55 pm... Germans come and play Dixieland music on your corner. Also, the lambada. No, seriously. We heard music playing (and by "heard music playing," I mean "felt our floor shaking") and when we got outside, we found a crowd of New Yorkers rocking out (an older couple did a great swing routine: two women boogied merrily, I tapped my foot like Thumper on methamphetamines, etc.).
It lasted for almost an hour before the cops arrived, at three minutes past ten: all I can say to my cop-calling neighbors is, you folks are missing out. Seriously, it is always better to join the party than it is to break up the party.
I am still amused by the sight of the fire-fighters from down the block slinking away when the cops arrived ....
