Good gods.  The northernmost fire that I'm aware of is in San Bernardino.  Driving there takes me an hour or so, so figure ... 70 miles, give or take. 

And yet, I can see a huge dirty orange-tinged cloud on the horizon, tainting the bright blue of a typically sunny California day, off in the distance.  That ... puts things in perspective, somehow.  Crossing my fingers for all the SoCal people ....
