Today has been a day of reading about the salonieres, in fact and in fiction.  Delia Sherman's The Porcelain Dove remains as haunting as ever, but, as always, I find myself desperately wishing for the sequel of how Linotte finds Pompey: "And then what happens?" syndrome, I term it in my head.
