Life, the universe, and everything ...
Nov. 15th, 2002 12:41 amIt's been a while since I've had time to write ... I've noticed this tendency in myself before (as have countless others). I'm a foul-weather journalist. I don't really bother to record the good days, or the okay days ... just the hellacious, disembowl-myself-with-a-dull-butter-knife, gnaw-out-my-own-liver sort of days. So, just for the sake of variety ....
The housewarming party was great. A large group of people from my department showed up, scared the hell out of my cat (the cat who is not scared of fire, or heights, or any other normal, self-preserving sort of thing took one look at them, growled, and hid behind a lamp for the rest of the night, watching them with a suspicious look in her eyes), scalped my Alice doll (in the process of dancing with her ... for the purposes of contextualization, let me add that the Alice doll carries a large and bloody knife, is decorated with Theban sigils, and hangs out with an anorexic, tattooed, pierced Cheshire cat), and went through five large bottles of hard liquor. At which point the party went across the street... but it was the first party that I'd ever thrown, and the first time that people had expressed envy for my living quarters (usually, the inverse is true), and it was a good experience. Despite the fact that there were cigarette butts and private experiences in my bathroom, I'm gung-ho enough about the whole thing that there *will* be a holiday event in a month or so ... consider yourselves invited.
I've been accepted for ICFA (very excited!) and asked to moderate a session at WisCon by the person who is possibly (okay, probably) my greatest hero(ine) (unbelievably excited, and somewhat nervous, as it'll be my first time chairing anything), and I'm still waiting to hear back from the journal that I submitted my MA thesis to. Yes, I know that it's a split infinative. No, I don't care. I'm hoping that good things come in threes ...
Other than that, things are pretty much moving along at a steady clip (papers, presentations, interning, cleaning, silversmithing, reading, writing, meeting nifty peers, drinking tequila with my cool new roommate and acclimating to the doctoral program, in short). So, here's to good times ...
